In 1966, the brothers Paul and Jim Van Doren decided to start a company and sell shoes in sunny Anaheim, California with their partners Gordon Lee and Serge Delia. The "Van Doren Rubber Company", as the company was called at the beginning, had 12 customers on the first day. The model they sold at the beginning was called Vans Deck Shoe, now known as Vans Authentic. Due to the robust sole of the shoes, the deck shoes became particularly popular with skateboarders. When the Vans #95 arrived in 1976, now known as Vans Era, Vans made his breakthrough in the skate scene. Due to the ankle pad and the new color combinations, the Era became the first choice when it came to skate shoes. Just one year later, in 1977, the Vans Old Skool and with it the "logo" on the shoe were presented. The so-called "Jazz Stripe" is one of the distinguishing features of Vans, next to the waffle sole. In 1978, the Sk8-Hi was introduced, the second model with the "Jazz Stripe" and revolutionized the skate scene again. The ankle-high skate shoe gives particularly good grip during jumps and landings. In the mid-90s, Vans sponsored her first festival, the Warped Tour, which still takes place annually. Meanwhile, Vans is one of the most popular sneaker brands.
